Gartner has a long-standing reputation for providing expert guidance and tools that help business leaders make smarter decisions. The company’s insights cover just about every area of business – including cybersecurity. Each year, Gartner’s highly anticipated 2023 Market Guide for Email Security sheds a fresh light on what’s driving the market, what’s ahead, and how to be best prepared. Today, we’d like to share some top insights and recommendations garnered from the Gartner report.1
"By 2026, credential loss will be the #1 effect of phishing attacks."
Sadly, this will make the cost of cybercrime even more expensive. In fact, IBM’s 2022 Cost of a Data Breach Report states that 19% of all data breaches are due to compromised and stolen credentials, with the average cost of a data beach reaching an all-time high of $4.35 million.
"By 2023, 20% of anti-phishing solutions will be delivered via API integration with the email platform, up from less than 5% today."
Application programming interface, commonly known as API, is a software intermediary that allows two applications to talk to each other. API integration is better than no integration…but INKY takes it even further with an in-line email security solution. You see, with API solutions, the inbox is accessed through the backend storage. Unfortunately, due to a nearly simultaneous sync, the email races to the recipient’s inbox, outpacing more thorough security measures. To reduce the risk even further, inline solutions are positioned between the email transport engine and the back-end cloud mail store, allowing the email to be thoroughly (yet instantly) examined before it reaches a recipient’s inbox.
Gartner also shares its recommendations for those who are responsible for email security, including:
"Look for email security solutions that use ML and AI-based anti-phishing technology for BEC protection to analyze conversation history to detect anomalies."
An award-winning cloud-based email security platform, INKY recognizes phishing emails that the human eye could never see. Driven by computer vision, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, INKY blocks malicious emails, many of which your secure email gateways (SEGs) and virus protection software programs can’t detect.
"Evaluate built-in email security capabilities provided by cloud email systems and augment it with third-party solutions for handling sophisticated attacks."
Cloud-based and effective, INKY proactively and instantly scans inbound, internal, and outbound emails to eliminate phishing and malware, protecting your organization and your clients from even the most complex threats. INKY’s intelligent machine learning algorithms identify abnormalities in emails, even if the threat has never been seen before.
"Ensure that the solution has multifaceted protection for credential theft, as well as computer vision to analyze URLs that are impersonating common log-on pages."
INKY's patented technology sanitizes all emails, detects foul play, disarms phishing emails, and reconstructs each email using safe and standard HTML5. Additionally, part of the regular INKY process includes file-level checks for known virus signatures, URL analysis, and a deep analysis of the rendered content of linked websites.
"Use email security solutions that include anti-phishing technology for targeted BEC protection that uses AI to detect communication patterns and conversation-style anomalies, as well as computer vision for inspecting suspect URLs."
INKY uses innovative machine learning techniques including stylometry and social graphing to create individual sender profiles which helps recognize abnormalities in emails, identifies forgery attempts, and prevents Business Email Compromise (BEC) and other types of phishing attacks.
"Reinforce training with content-aware banners and in-line prompts to help educate users."
At INKY, we watch for fake security messages and all other types of phishing emails every day, around the clock to keep companies safe. We’re also the only behavioral email security platform. That means that not only does INKY block phishing attempts, but it also coaches users to make safe decisions – everywhere, all the time. You see, once the phishing analysis is complete, INKY applies one or more of nearly 60 interactive banners to educate the recipient with specifics of the threat. It’s like a little bit of training baked into every email. Also, one unique thing about the INKY banners is that they disappear when the email is replied to or forwarded.
INKY is proud to have been recognized in Gartner’s 2023 Market Guide for Email Security as a representative vendor. To use Gartner’s words, representative vendors were chosen, “on the basis of one or both of the following: client interest via searches on Gartner.com and client inquiries about that vendor for email security; and vendors offering email security capabilities in ways that are unique, innovative and/or demonstrative of forward-looking product strategies.
